December Library Hours

As many of you know, Amy will be leaving as library director.  She is staying to help during the transition, but as she has already started her new job, we will not have staffing for all regular library hours until a replacement is hired.

There will be some temporary changes to library hours during the month of December. We will be closed Tuesday the 13th and open on Monday the 12th from 10-2 instead.  There will be shortened hours on Friday the 16th (10-2) and extended hours on Thursday the 15th (11-7) and Saturday the 17th (10-3).  Our regular weekly story hours and movie showings will move to Thursdays for the remainder of the month. Any further changes will be posted here and in the library.

We appreciate your patience during this transition and hope to have a new library director in place soon.

Food for Fines

From now through the end of the month, drop off a donation of non-perishable food items at the library and we’ll forgive your fines.  Donations will be given to the Tabitha’s Closet food pantry, right here in Iron Ridge.  Help local families, and clear your library account!

Attention Scrapbookers

If you enjoy scrapbooking or card-making, or you’d like to learn, please join us at the library on Saturday, November 19.  The event runs all day, and lunch will be provided, so come when you like and stay as long as you like.  Share ideas with other scrapbookers, work on projects together, learn about new materials, and take part in a make-and-take at 6:30 pm.  Registration is $25 per person, and all proceeds go to help support library programs.  Please register by Nov. 12.

Library Hours Survey

We’re considering the possibility of adding morning hours on one day a week, probably Wednesdays, so that we could have a morning story hour, which several parents have requested.  This would probably require closing the library on Saturdays to meet our budget.   We want to hear your opinion on this!  Please help us by filling out a survey while you’re at the library, or just leave us a comment here.

Snakes in the Library!

Snakes Alive will be at the library this coming Wednesday, July 27th, at 3:30.  Come see and touch these scaly creatures and learn more about them and their habitats.  All ages are invited.

Next Book Club Meeting

The book club will be taking the summer off, but to make up for it we’ll be discussing two books when we come back: The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, the first installment of Alexander McCall Smith’s popular series of cozy mysteries set in Botswana; and Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s memoir Infidel, about escaping her fundamentalist Islamic upbringing in northern Africa.  Stop by the front desk to pick up a copy of either book, or both.  The meeting will be Monday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 in the evening.

Summer Reading Program Starts June 15

This year’s theme is ‘One World, Many Stories.’  We’ll have stories from around the world, tastes of local foods, and lots of fun activities!
